Resolutions for 2013

I think since the dawn of man, all New Years Resolutions have always consisted of getting in shape or losing weight. Like so many other men and women, I too make this my resolution every year and at about the second weekend in I promptly fall off the wagon and go back to my old ways.
This year I’ve decided to not to add it back on to my list of resolutions and have decided to add a few others that are more important.
Here they are:
  1. Set goals that are realistic for me to achieve.
  2. Track what I spend and learn how to budget better. Jonathon made us an excel spreadsheet; so that we can track where our money is going and how much we’re saving. With so much spending going on between the wedding and the purchase of our new home over the past couples of years… it’s vital we work together to not only save money, but to track how we’re spending our money. Slowly but surely I’m learning the benefits of saving for the future and I’m learning that sometimes the things you want in the present will seem insignificant compared to the wants/needs you will have in the future.
  3. Make positive memories with my friends, family, and husband.
  4. Get Healthy! Not just physically, but spiritually as well.
  5. Cut the negativity out of my life. People are who they are, you can’t change them no matter how badly you want them to be different, but there is no reason to let them bring you down. Focus on the positive aspects of your life and focus on the things you can change instead of the things you can’t.
  6. I hate going to school. I absolutely do not enjoy it at all, but I have to learn to endure because I want to be able to provide for my family and the only way I can adequately provide for my family is to get a Bachelor’s degree.
  7. Study more and read more!
What resolutions did you make this year?

Holiday Updates

Sorry I’ve been MIA! Things got really hectic around the holidays, so I had to put the blog on the back burner.
Here are a few things that have happened since I’ve been on my hiatus:
  • Jonathon and I had a fabulous Thanksgiving Day with our families. Our aunts, uncles, and cousins were so excited to see us. This was the first big holiday since the wedding and we really felt the love. I know I especially did from my family. When we arrived at my Uncle Greg and Aunt Helda’s house we welcomed with lots hugs and they kept asking us, “How is married life?” followed by a chuckle. Everyone asked us about our new house and seemed genuinely excited for us.
  • My cousin Jason came up from Georgia for Thanksgiving and introduced us to his fiancĂ© Jordan. They are getting married in Georgia on June 15. Go June weddings!

  • We got a washer and dryer for our new place! Best Buy had an awesome pre-Thanksgiving day sale on all their washer and dryers, so we got them for a steal!
  • We also got all of our kitchen appliances on Black Friday at Best Buy. Thanks Bryan!
  • Jonathon and I finally met our friends’ Kevin and Stephanie’s new baby boy Kyle!
  • Our friends Dony and Karen had their new little guy Ethan! Ethan got RSV just after he was born and had to stay in the hospital for a week. He is doing much better now and we can’t wait to meet him.
  • I designed these beautiful Holiday Cards on VistaPrint!

  • My brother in law Aaron popped the question to his girlfriend Emina on the first day of Hanukkah and she said, yes! They are having a fall wedding.
  • Aaron came home for Christmas and asked Jonathon to be his best man. Jonathon also said yes.
  • We had a wonderful Christmas together in our little place. We kept it low key since we’ve spent so much on our new house, but we actually ended up buying each other more than we had anticipated and even bought each other a few gifts during the after holiday sales. (post on our gifts coming soon)
  • I can’t leave out the awesome White Elephant gift exchange my family did this year. Oh it was such a blast! I got this awesome sandwich maker and Jonathon got (me) a Starbucks gift card and salt and pepper shakers.

I love this face! LOL

  • For New Years Eve we had romantic dinner at Kona Grill and watched the ball drop on our couch. It was really low key, but we enjoyed it.
Those are the highlights of my life during my blog hiatus. What have you been up to lately?
